LITTLE ROCK, AR - Lawyers for Nolan Richardson asked a federal judge today to award the fired basketball coach $8.86 million in his discrimination lawsuit against the University of Arkansas.
Both sides made legal filings today detailing how they would like U.S. District Judge William R. Wilson, Jr. to rule. Wilson is hearing the case without a jury.
Closing arguments are scheduled for Wednesday.
Richardson's request includes back pay, other lost compensation and $2 million in damages. The fired basketball coach had previously said he wants his job back, but abandoned that notion in today's filing.
The university asked the judge to find the firing was based on a remark Richardson made after a loss to Kentucky about the university buying out his contract.
