Newport benefit goes to the dogs

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) – A weekend fundraiser in Newport went to the dogs, literally.

The Jackson County Humane Society held its second annual Car, Truck and Bike Show on Saturday.

All the proceeds benefit the animals in the shelter's care.

People come and check out various rides, including antique cars and hot rods.

The only price of admission was some kind of donation to the humane society.

Coordinator Ann Hout says the event serves as the shelter's biggest fundraiser of the year.

"I just hope everyone will come out and tell them how much they appreciate the work that we're doing to try to help reduce the overpopulation of dogs and give them good homes," Hout said. "It is a labor of love."

Hout expected the number of participants to the car show to double this year and hopes it continues to grow.

The event was also sponsored by George Kell Motors in Newport.
