Jonesboro, AR - Shannon Johnson Reports

Chautauqua's Here

Posted June 9, 2004 at 10:15 p.m. CDT

JONESBORO -- No educational experience compares to Chautauqua. Chautauqua is a sort of tent rivival for the humanities. A group of historical re-enactors made of historians, philosophers and humanist portray famous historical figures. They bring history to life by telling their persons' life experiences in a first person characterization. They even look like the actual person they portray !

This week you can meet characters who played a vital role in World War II. President Harry S. Truman, Sir. Winston Churchill, Margaret-Bourke White and Rosie the Riveter will be at Crowley's Ridge State Park in Jonesboro. The Chautauqua will be here through June 12th. Admissions is free and refreshments are available.

Whether you're a history buff or not attending a chautauqua is an eye opening experience. The only other place you'll meet these people is in a book.
