Police officer accused of bullying daughter's classmates online

(WMC-TV) – A woman whose job it is to protect children is now accused of using social media to bully a child who may have been bullying her daughter.

Osceola police officer Jennifer Ephlin is suspended pending an investigation into the accusations that she cyber bullied her daughter's 10-year-old classmate.

"It's upsetting to know that a person that's out there that's supposed to be protecting and solving crimes against children would also be the type of person committing crimes," said a family friend of the victim who wanted to remain anonymous. "She sent harassing, bullying messages to one or possibly more children of her daughter's age and in the same class. Insults, degrading remarks, things of that nature."

The alleged victim's parents released the following statement:

"We are saddened and angry over what happened to our child and others. To find out it was a police officer sworn to protect those was shocking. Our child did nothing to deserve the insults they received from this person."

"I've heard several stories that the officer's daughter didn't get along with none of the children involved," said the victim's family friend. "Some of the families involved hired a lawyer and they were able to get all the IP addresses for every time the account was accessed."

Osceola Police Chief Ray Rigsby would not comment on the case. He says it is still under investigation.

When Action News 5's Jamel Major went by Officer Ephlin's home to ask about the allegations, nobody answered.

Jamel did speak to Officer Ephlin's husband Monday afternoon. He said that his wife is embarrassed by the allegations and just hopes that she can keep her job.
