MSCC dedicating Marion Berry Renewable Energy Center

Posted: Updated:

WEST MEMPHIS, AR (KAIT) – Mid-South Community College (MSCC) will dedicate its newest facility, the $9 million Marion Berry Renewable Energy Center, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m.

A ticket-only dinner will also be held the night before to raise proceeds for development of the Marion Berry Scholarship.

The building is named in recognition of the Honorable Marion Berry, the longtime First District Congressman who directed over $55 million the eastern Arkansas for the economy and education. The center will provide a facility to support entrepreneurs, workforce training, and applied research in using renewable agriculture to help create new businesses and jobs across the region.

MSCC received a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration to assist in the construction of the center. An additional $1.2 million from the U.S. Department of Labor was provided for program development and equipment for an engine testing facility.
