LITTLE ROCK, AR - The state Department of Finance and Administration says it is correcting a mistake that led to 1,175 individual tax filers being told their returns were late.
The state says a vendor processing the returns used the wrong filing date, and the taxpayers were incorrectly assessed penalties and interest.
The department says taxpayers started calling yesterday to question the tax bills. The people wrongly cited for being late have been identified and they will receive letters of explanation. They won't have to pay the extra fees.
The state says its vendor is correcting its procedure so the mistake isn't repeated.
