JONESBORO, AR - An undisclosed Jonesboro location will serve as the host site for a regional disaster drill next week involving first responders from eleven Region 8 counties.

A staged scenario will be enacted Wednesday in which "someone has spread a powdery substance over a crowd, and several people have been exposed to a chemical agent.  Authorities will perform decontamination and containment as outlined in their emergency response plans."

The drill is intended as a tool to help local hospitals, emergency responders and health departments identify their strengths and weaknesses during a disaster, while also improving their ability to meet required emergency management plans.  Areas assessed will include pre-drill planning, incident command, decontamination, triage and treatment.

Participating counties in Region 8 include Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Randolph, Lawrence, Greene, Mississippi, Poinsett, St. Francis and Monroe.  Other counties include Lee and Phillips.  These counties comprise the Northeast Regional Bio-terrorism Response and Preparedness Team.
