HOUSTON (Houston Chronicle) - The Texans have decided on Derek Newton as their starting right tackle over Rashad Butler.
The move comes as no surprise because Newton started the third preseason game at New Orleans, a 34-27 loss on Saturday. The third game is the most important of preseason because the starters receive more playing time.
Newton, 24, played the first two series against the Saints, and the Texans scored two touchdowns for a 14-0 lead. Butler came off the bench to replace him. They've rotated throughout preseason.
Newton (6-6, 318) played at Arkansas State and was drafted in the seventh round last year. As soon as he arrived for his first training camp, the coaches and scouts began to talk about his quick feet and athleticism, saying he was raw and needed developing.
