WKU's Amanda Buechel, North Texas' Jackie Kerestine earn Sun Belt Soccer honors

From the Sun Belt Conference

Western Kentucky's Amanda Buechel was named Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while North Texas sophomore Jackie Kerestine earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday.

Beuchel, from Cincinnati, Ohio recorded two goals and one assist in WKU's weekend sweep of games at the Ball State Tournament in Muncie, Indiana.

Against Xavier, Buechel connected with Allie Auscherman for the assist on the game winning goal. She was also tackled in the box, giving WKU a penalty kick that turned into the team's second goal of the game.

Against Evansville, Buechel scored both of the Lady Toppers' goals. Her second goal of the game gave her 20 career goals, becoming WKU's sixth player in program history to reach the 20 goal mark.

NT's Kerestine picked up her second-straight shutout with a clean sheet against Sam Houston State, and continued her strong start to the season with five saves in a 2-1 win over the Houston Cougars on Sunday.

She had a shutout streak of 360:49 minutes, spanning over four games and has played in 16 consecutive games allowing a goal or less.

Kerestine's Defensive Player of the Week award is the second consecutive honor for the undefeated Mean Green. Kelsey Hodges picked up the award in week one.
