Both Harding Cross Country teams ranked eighth in region

Both Harding cross country teams enter the 2012 season ranked No. 8 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA II Central Region Preseason Rankings.

Last season, both teams placed seventh in the NCAA II South Central Region Meet. Beginning this season, the NCAA has placed Harding's teams in the Central Region along with other teams from the Great American Conference, MIAA, and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The top three teams from the Central Region Meet on Nov. 3 in Joplin, Mo. The NCAA Division II National Meet is also in Joplin, Mo., on Nov. 17.

Augustana, an NSIC member from Sioux Falls, S.D., is the regional favorite in both men's and women's cross country.

The Great American Conference coaches chose Harding's women as the favorite to win the conference championship on Oct. 20 in Ada, Okla. Harding's men were second.

Both the Bison and Lady Bison cross country teams, coached by Steve Guymon, begin their seasons on Sept. 1 at the University of Memphis Brooks Twilight Classic in Memphis, Tenn.
