JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The American Red Cross is working to prepare Region 8 residents for an emergency.

A class took place at the United Way Office.  Potential instructors learned how to teach basic-level First Aid, CPR, and AED courses.

Barbara Jackson with the American Red Cross says the more people who know how to react in an emergency situation, the better. "You may be the only person that can be there between life and death.  You may be the only person who can help somebody in the case of emergency.  So, it's never a bad thing to learn, you can always learn."

Jackson says it's important for people to continue getting trained, even if they're already certified. "Research is constantly being done and they change some of the procedures.  I know several organizations are moving towards hands only CPR, so this is evolving.  Research is showing and teaching us better ways to help people."

Each year, an average of more than 9 million people gain the skills they need to prepare for and respond to emergencies through American Red Cross training.
