Man taken to hospital after being hit in head several times with vase

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Jonesboro Police said they were dispatched to the 300 block of Garden Manor Drive in reference to a man with a gun and an assault.

After some investigation and an on foot chase, officers arrested 21-year-old Cedric K. Bell for second-degree battery and fleeing. Police alleged Bell was the man responsible for breaking 18-year-old Marquis Treyshun Jenkins's hand and beating him repeatedly with a vase.

According to the police report, 23-year-old Charity Robinson was having her brother, Jenkins, over for a visit when Bell, her child's father, came over to return a set of keys. The report implied that when Bell saw Jenkins, they got into a confrontation and started fighting; once separated, Bell left the apartment and said he was going to go get his gun.

Police said a neighbor told them she had also heard Bell make the same threat and later saw him return with the gun, but another resident stopped Bell and informed him that the police were on the way. Police said that was when Bell got into a white suburban and left.

Jenkins sustained several scratches to his chest, a broken hand , and wound to the back of his head, said investigators. The report states that Jenkins was struck several times in the head with a vase until it broke.

Jenkins was taken St. Bernards Medical Center for examination.

Bell was later found, arrested after a brief on foot chase and taken to the Craighead County Jail.
