CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - A Missouri Highway Patrol trooper is hospitalized in critical condition, a day after being hit by a vehicle during a southeast Missouri traffic stop.

Sergeant Bradley Lively is in an intensive care unit at Cape Girardeau's St. Francis Medical Center.

The patrol says Lively had stopped a vehicle along northbound lanes of Interstate 55 just north of Cape Girardeau and was outside his patrol car when he was hit.

Lively is a 14-year veteran of the patrol.
