HARRISBURG, AR (KAIT) – The man accused of murdering two people in Trumann in September 2012 appeared in court Monday.
According to the Poinsett County Prosecutor's Office, John Anthony Arnoult had a trial date set for September 9th. Prosecutors say they plan to seek the death penalty.
A judge ordered a mental evaluation for Arnoult in March.
Arnoult faces two counts of capital murder in the deaths of 56-year-old Constance Cole and 57-year-old John Poff. He also faces an aggravated residential burglary charge.
Cole and Poff's bodies were found September 2, 2012, by a maintenance worker who did a welfare check of the home after neighbors reported hearing gunshots.
Neighbors told police they heard gun shots around 6 o'clock and thought those shots were from dove hunters. Authorities say witnesses told investigators that a car drove away from the home shortly after gunshots rang out.
According to Arkansas State Police and the Trumann Police Department, on September 9, Arnoult was arrested in their deaths.
Trumann Police Chief Chad Henson said police found multiple wounds on the bodies, and a disheveled trailer.
Arnoult is being held without bond.
