LAFAYETTE, LA (The Advertiser) - UL coach Mark Hudspeth said today that starting running back Montrel Carter is out for the year because of the left knee injury he sustained in last Saturday night's season-opening win over Lamar is season-ending.
"He's done for the year," Hudspeth said.
An MRI test performed today confirmed that Carter tore both the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) in the joint, according to Hudspeth.
Surgery probably will take place sometime next week, after swelling subsides, Hudspeth said.
The Cecilia High product and 2010 All-Acadiana pick hurt the knee late in Saturday's opening quarter. The redshirt freshman did not return for the remainder of UL's 40-0 victory over the Cardinals.
