PIGGOTT, AR (KAIT) -   A group of senior citizens in a Region 8 nursing home were entertained Tuesday afternoon.

Singer Gary Sloan, who's known for performing with The Gaithers and The Happy Goodmans, gave a benefit performance at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott.

Sloan first contacted the administration with the idea of this benefit because one of their residents was a fellow performer he had worked with.

Nursing Home Director Glenda Spicer says this event shows that the nursing home is a ministry. "It's important the community recognizes it as a ministry. These people need that." Spicer said. "They need to know the community loves and supports them."

Nursing Home volunteer Jane Keene believes events like these really makes a difference and brightens the residents' day. "That's what I try to do every time I volunteer." Keene said. "I try to do something to really brighten the residents' day."

All proceeds from the event will go toward making the residents' Christmas a little brighter.
