NEW DETAILS: The Walnut Ridge Police Department held a press conference Monday afternoon confirming that it was Randall's body that was found Saturday. The cause of death is still being investigated.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Parole Board is recommending a reduced sentence for a convicted murderer who was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The board said 50-year-old James Timothy Carmichael's sentence should be commuted to 27 years in prison.
Carmichael was convicted of capital murder in the 1987 death of Eric Marsh of North Little Rock. In his commutation application, Carmichael said he shot Marsh to stop Marsh from choking him after he had been fooling around with Marsh's wife. Carmichael said he never thought the shot would kill Marsh and that he didn't mean to hurt anyone.
Parole board member Rick Mays wrote that a number of people showed up to support Carmichael at a clemency hearing.
Gov. Mike Beebe will decide whether to heed the parole board's recommendation.
