Flooding Strikes Again in Western Arkansas

GREENWOOD, AR - Heavy rains drenched parts of western Arkansas, where about 15 people were evacuated from their homes yesterday.  Officials say as much as six inches of rain fell in a three-hour period.

In northern Crawford County, where up to eight inches of rain fell, a teenage boy had to be rescued from a drainage ditch north of Van Buren.

In Greenwood, Police Chief Robert Hicks said the evacuations were prompted by rising flood waters.  The evacuees were given shelter first at City Hall and later at the First United Methodist Church.

Hicks estimated that about 200 homes were damaged by water, plus several businesses.
