LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Some circuit clerks in Arkansas receive thousands of dollars above their salaries from fees they collect for conducting foreclosure auctions, though there is some division about whether the practice should continue.
Last week, Saline County Circuit Clerk Dennis Milligan announced he'll no longer accept the fees.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Milligan received nearly $20,000 in such fees last year, above his annual salary of $73,896.
Milligan says future fees will roll into the county's general fund.
A move in the Legislature to remove the fees failed despite being prompted by news in 2010 that two northwest Arkansas clerks received more than $100,000 each in foreclosure auction fees.
