Northeastern State scored early on the Harding women's soccer team Sunday in non-conference action and never let up, defeating the Lady Bisons 5-0 at the Harding Soccer Field.
Northeastern State (2-0-0) was able to consistently penetrate Harding's high defensive line to set up numerous 1-on-1 opportunities against Lady Bison goalkeeper Danielle Nonaka.
The Lady Bisons fell to 0-3-0 and are still in search of their first goal of the season.
Nonaka, a sophomore from Woodbridge, Va., was up to the task on several of the Northeastern State chances and tied a career-high with 12 saves. It was tied for the ninth-most saves in a game in program history.
Northeastern State senior forward Rachel Sordahl unleashed 14 shots and scored her first of two goals in the third minute of the game. It was the first of three RiverHawk goals scored on through-balls.
Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Cudjoe made it 2-0 with her first goal of the season in the 29th minute.
Northeastern State got goals from junior forward Jennifer Clark (62nd minute), Sordahl (71st minute), and senior defender Sibonet Quinones (85th minute), who scored on a header off Stephanie Doherty's corner kick.
The RiverHawks outshot the Lady Bisons 33-7. Sordahl and Cudjoe accounted for 23 of Northeastern State's shots.
Northeastern State posted its second straight shutout. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Brudzinski earned the shutout without having to make a save.
Harding has nine days off before its next action. The Lady Bisons will play the first of three straight road games against Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., on Sept. 18. Harding's next home action is Sept. 25 against Central Baptist.
