From Arkansas State University

The Arkansas State men's golf team opened its 2012-13 season Monday at the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate, finishing the two-day tournament's opening two rounds at the Hattiesburg Country Club tied for 12th place among 15 teams with a combined 584.

The Red Wolves turned in a first round 291 that placed them eighth, but added two strokes to that total in their second round to drop four places in the standings.  ASU is tied with Rice and trails 10th place UALR and UTSA by just two strokes.

Ole Miss leads the field with a 565, while Louisiana-Lafayette is in second place with a 568 and Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State tied for third with a 570.

The Red Wolves were led by Alex Hewitt, who is currently tied for 26th place with a 144.  Hewitt posted an opening-round 74 before coming back to card a team-low 70 for the second 18 holes.  Easton Key is only one stroke behind his teammate Hewitt and his 145 (72-73) leaves him tied for 31st place heading into the final round.

Also competing for ASU, Chance Holden is tied for 47th place with a 148 (71-77) and Matt Howton tied for 55th with a 149 (74-75).  Christian Helmbold shot a 154 (79-75) to end the day in 75th place.  Sean Brock, competing as an individual, is tied for 85th place with a 161 (82-79).
