(RNN) – The iPhone 5 is here - well, it will be on Sept. 21.

Apple fanboys and girls, who are jumping up and down and squealing with delight about the unveiling of the new smartphone from Apple, can pre-order the iPhone 5 on Friday, Sept. 14.

The cost of the new iPhone will be the same as the iPhone 4S: $199 for a 16 gigabyte phone, $299 for a 34 gigabytes and $399 for a 64 gigabytes.

Phil Schiller, a marketing executive at Apple, debuted the new phone and its features at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on Wednesday.

According to live blogs and tweets from the announcement, the phone is larger and the screen will measure 4".

The larger screen will make viewing a 16:9 aspect ratio - great for watching movies - easy to do on the new smartphone.

The iPhone 5 will be available to AT&T, Verizon and Sprint customers - leaving T-Mobile out in the cold.

As the rumors predicted, the connector is now smaller, but there will be accessories to connect the new iPhone to old accessories.

The leaked images about the new ear buds - which are now called EarPods - which are not included in the box with the new iPhone or iPods, but is included in the feature. Meaning, the EarPods will reach your home before the iPhone.

A new iPod Nano and iPod Touch also were revealed, also using the new connector plug.

The iPod Touch, which will now come in colors, is much thinner and has the 4" screen, has the retina display, an LED flash, and the battery life will allow for eight hours of video or 40 hours of music - perfect for entertaining the bored traveler - aka kids.

On the back of the iPod Touch, there will be a "loop" where a wrist band can be attached, again perfect for younger users.

Siri also will be available on the iPod Touch.

The new iPod Touch will cost $299 for 32 gigabytes and $399 for a 64 gigabytes.

The Nano again has a large display, and its design seems to be a throwback to the early versions of iPods, including the rainbow colors.

The icons for the iPod Nano are now circular, much different than the square icons familiar to Apple uses of the iPhone and iPad.

A 16 gigabyte iPod Nano will cost $149 - which is just $10 cheaper than a Kindle Fire.

The new iPod Nano and Touch will be available in October.

On the software side of things, a new operating system, iOS6, will run on both the new and old iPhones; the web browser Safari will be full-screen, and the new maps app will replace the Google maps app on previous iPhones.

The new map app has turn-by-turn directions and a print option.

Siri will open apps, and will now be able to post to Facebook (start a countdown to when a celebrity 'accidentally' posts something embarrassing).

Apple also will revamp iTunes, which will now be integrated with iCloud, the cloud storing service offered by Apple.

The new iTunes design will feature albums as large tiles, to which critics say is similar to Amazon's Kindle store.

Facebook "likes" will also be integrated into the iTunes stores as well.

Other possible announcements include a smaller iPad and new iPods.

However, the online Apple Store is still down, and will most likely be back up after the announcement.

The iPhone 5 is actually the sixth iPhone released - Apple released the iPhone 4S, an upgrade to the iPhone 4, in October 2011. That was the version of the phone that included the popular and often-spoofed voice recognition program Siri.

The last major debut of an Apple smartphone was the iPhone 4 on June 7, 2010.

Apple released its first iPhone on June 28, 2007, and many eager customers waited overnight to purchase the new smartphone - a trend that continued with each subsequent release of a newer version.

Initially, iPhone users had to use AT&T as a wireless service provider due to a deal Apple cut a deal with the company, but in 2011, Verizon announced that an agreement was reached with Apple and it would begin selling the iPhone 4.

CNN reports that a new iPhone 5 could boost the country's GDP, citing J.P. Morgan's observation that the new iPhone could give the economy a quarter to a half of a percentage point increase.

CNN reported that Apple sold 26 million iPhones last quarter.
