CHERRY VALLEY --"It was kind of scary at first, and then you just felt like you were flying like a bird,"said glider Ricky Price.
It's a sport you might not have heard of. It's called gliding. The glider is a motor-less air plane towed several thousand feet in the air, and then it's released.
On a good day the plane will stay in the air for as long as 5 hours reaching speeds of 80 to 100 miles per hour.
Philip Morgan left hang gliding behind for a glider plane. He say's there is nothing like gliding on a beautiful day.
"You can fly for hours with no gas. It's exhilarating. You get to fly with eagles,"said Morgan.
And believe it or not, Morgan says it's a great way to cool off during these hot Arkansas afternoons.
"If you are at 6,000 feet it's going to be in the 60's and 70's. You're going to be in a nice cool environment.
You can just kick back, and enjoy the afternoon,"said Morgan.
Gliding is a very popular sport in Europe, and soaring enthusiasts are hoping that it's popularity increases in the United States.
After a few pieces of advice from the pilot, Ricky Price is ready to take a ride.
You get to see everything. You can see all the way down to Wynne, and you can see all the way to Harrisburg. The crops were real pretty. It was great.
Sounds like he had a good time.
