WBC Lady Eagles Volleyball splits on road trip

The Williams Baptist College volleyball squad traveled to Springfield, Ill., and Columbia, Mo., over the weekend for four American Midwest Conference matches.  They ended the trip with two wins and two losses.

Both wins came over Benedictine University-Springfield on Friday night.  The first match was a five set, come from behind victory for the Lady Eagles.  After dropping the first two sets 22-25 and 22-25, WBC raised the level of their play and won the final three: 25-12, 25-22, and 15-9.

Freshman Harley Strayhorn led the Eagles attack with 16 kills.  Following her was Jameea Ward with 13.

The second match of the doubleheader was easier for WBC as they won in three straight sets: 25-22, 25-11, and 25-17.

Courtney Melvin contributed with 19 digs, followed by Kelsey Odell with 10.

After sweeping Benedictine the Lady Eagles traveled to Columbia to face the third ranked team in the latest NAIA national poll.  The Cougars swept the doubleheader, winning the first match 25-12, 25-13, and 25-16.  They won the second match 25-14, 25-15, and 25-20.

Williams now has a record of 11-4 overall and 3-4 in the AMC.   The Lady Eagles host Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday, September 22.  The doubleheader begins at 11:30 a.m.
