JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management has released the "ReadyAR" app.
The app gives viewers instant access to weather and road conditions, live radar, threat information, as well as emergency planning and readiness tips.
Craighead County OEM Coordinator David Moore touts the new smart phone app as a major step forward.
"Make a plan. Do you want to start preparing? It can guide you through it, tell you some of the things that you need to look for."
"ReadyAR" has 4 main buttons--Planning, Weather, Roads, and Threats.
The "planning" category breaks down threats such as earthquakes, flood, and influenza.
It even has specific safety information for the type of structure you're in.
"You have to assess your own situation and know in a particular circumstance. Where do you need to go? What do you need to do?"
The "weather" tab has a look at current conditions as well as local radar.
Avoid construction areas and lane closures with the "road" button.
"In bad weather, especially this winter, you can bring it up and you can have a direct link. And it shows you what roads are open and which ones are iced over."
You can also stay up-to-date on computer viruses and hacks by selecting the "threat" tab.
"ReadyAR" can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes store and Google Play.
The new app was released in commemoration of Arkansas's 9th year involved with National Preparedness Month.
