LAWRENCE, Kan. (AStateRedWolves.com) – Sitting atop a 73-player field after two rounds of action at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, freshman Abi Laker helped the Arkansas State women's golf team put itself in second place at the two-day tournament with a combined 617 shot Monday on the Alvama Golf Course.
Laker carded a 74 and 69 for the first and second rounds, respectively, giving her a combined 1-under par 143 and three-stroke lead over second-place Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Red Wolves turned in an opening-round 315 followed by a 302 for the second 18 holes, ending the day with a combined 617. Host-school Kansas leads the 13-team field with a 601, while Kansas State sits in third two strokes behind A-State.
Including Laker, ASU had four players finish the day among the top 25 individual leaders. Jennifer Loiacano shot a combined 155 (80-75) to finish tied for 11th place, Courtney Manning is tied for 18th with a 157 (79-78) and Endsley Evans stands tied for 24th after recording a 159 (79-80). Evans is competing as an individual.
Also competing for A-State, Anna Carling is tied for 37th place with a 162 and Anna Flanrey is 72nd with a 179.
The third and final round of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational will be played Tuesday.
