JOENESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Students at the Jonesboro Visual and Performing Arts School got to sit down Tuesday with a national piano artist.

Jim Witter stopped by the school to talk with students about the arts.  He performed for the kids before hitting the stage at the Fowler Center.

He says it is important to keep students aware of the arts because schools all across the U.S. and Canada, Witter's home country, are constantly cutting arts programs. "There are so many studies that prove that kids who take music lessons, take dance lessons, get involved in the visual arts do better all around." Witter said after performing for the students.

He also aimed to show students that you can make a career out of the arts. "People think that it's something you do because you love it," Witter said, "I want people to know there are a lot of things you can do with it.  You can make a career out of it as long as you follow your heart and do what you love to do."

Witter performed "Piano Man" Tuesday night at the 2012-2013 Fowler Center Series.
