JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A Craighead County man is behind bars facing attempted murder charges.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Steven Honeycutt was arrested for criminal attempt to commit first degree murder, aggravated assault, battery in the second degree, terroristic threatening, and felon in possession of a firearm.

Police say he beat a woman and then pointed a sawed-off shotgun in her face and pulled the trigger. The gun misfired.

Police say Honeycutt made the woman look into the gun at the primer to see how close she came to dying.

The woman suffered numerous bruises, cuts, broken ribs, and a collapsed lung.

When police searched Honeycutt's home, they found spent shotgun shells.

Honeycutt is charged with criminal attempt to commit first degree murder, aggravated assault, battery in the second degree, terroristic threatening, and felon in possession of a firearm.

Honeycutt's bond was set at $500,000 and he is set to appear in court again on October 30.
