FORREST CITY, AR - (WMC-TV) – Longtime St. Francis County Sheriff Bobby May is pretty mad.

"I don't take kindly to any of my deputies being injured in any case," said May.

One of his deputies was hurt after stepping onto some nails that were buried in several trenches along a rural road east of Forrest City.

"And buried slightly with soil over the nails with the sharp parts sticking up," said May.

The deputy was in the process of serving an eviction notice on 37-year-old Bobby Mitchell.  He is now in jail on charges of setting booby traps.  That's a Class D Felony in Arkansas.

"What if a child had been walking along that driveway or road and fell on the nails and say punctured a lung," said May.

The sheriff said Mitchell's booby traps had already punctured at least five tires on his in-law's cars before his father in law reported him.  He requested help getting Mitchell out of one of his homes Mitchell shares with his daughter.

"I'm just trying to stay out of the situation," said Ron Perdew.  "Let the sheriff handle that part of it and I'll handle my part here," he added.

Perdew graded the road to make sure there were no more trenches.  All of the nails appeared to be removed as well.

"I would think anybody who would do something like that can't be thinking the way a normal person would think," said sheriff May.

Bobby Mitchell is being held on a $40,000 bond for setting booby traps.  Meanwhile, the deputy who stepped on the nails was still protected by his last tetanus shot.
