LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) – The seasonal flu vaccine is available
again to schoolchildren in grades K-12 thanks to the Arkansas Department of
Health and the Arkansas Department of education.
According to the ADH, vaccinations will be available beginning
on the week of Oct. 8, and school clinics will continue for the next several
months. Both the injection and nasal mist treatments will be available.
A spokesperson with ADH says students are not required to
take the flu shot, but Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of
Pediatricians recommend flu shots for everyone 6 months and older.
Schools will send a consent form and a fact sheet about the
vaccine home with every student. If you want your children to receive the
vaccine, the form must be signed and returned.
ADH can ask your insurance company to pay for the cost of
the vaccine. If you do not have insurance or your company does not pay, the shot
will be provided at no cost.
