Flu Vaccines available at Arkansas schools starting Oct. 8

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) – The seasonal flu vaccine is availableagain to schoolchildren in grades K-12 thanks to the Arkansas Department ofHealth and the Arkansas Department of education.

According to the ADH, vaccinations will be available beginningon the week of Oct. 8, and school clinics will continue for the next severalmonths. Both the injection and nasal mist treatments will be available.

A spokesperson with ADH says students are not required totake the flu shot, but Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy ofPediatricians recommend flu shots for everyone 6 months and older.

Schools will send a consent form and a fact sheet about thevaccine home with every student. If you want your children to receive thevaccine, the form must be signed and returned.

ADH can ask your insurance company to pay for the cost ofthe vaccine. If you do not have insurance or your company does not pay, the shotwill be provided at no cost.
