JONESBORO, Ark. (AStateRedWolves.com) – The Arkansas State bowling team was ranked second in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Preseason Poll released on Saturday.
The Red Wolves received 589 points and five first-place votes, while defending NCAA Champion Maryland Eastern Shore garnered 634 points and 14 first-place votes. National runner-up Farleigh Dickinson was third with 553 points, followed by Vanderbilt (495) and Nebraska (477).
A-State finished the 2011-12 season ranked fifth overall and advanced the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season. The squad finished the year with 90-38, which was the most wins in school history and finished no worse than fourth in tournament play last season.
Head coach Justin Kostick returns for his fourth season as head coach of the Red Wolves and has a .639 (228-101) winning percentage during that time and won the NTCA Coach of the Year Award last season.
The Red Wolves return three NTCA All-America selections, including Freshman of the Year and Third-team selection Sarah Lokker. Junior Amanda Labossiere earned Second-team honors last season and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team, while senior Rachael Gittings was a First-team selection.
ASU will open the season at the Tulane Collegiate Invitational in New Orleans, La., Oct. 19-21.
