The Arkansas State University men's cross country team turned in a notable effort with an eighth-place 143 team score Saturday (Sept. 29) at the Rhodes College Invitational.
A-State finished 16 points behind Tennessee-Martin for third place as Memphis claimed the meet crown with a first-place 26 points among the 18 participating teams.
Freshman Lance Beckman led the way for the Red Wolves with a 10th-place 26:49 time on the 8K Plough Park course. Senior David Mills also cracked the top-20 finishers by running a time of 27:10 to earn 17th place.
Freshman Jesse Duvall clocked a 27:57 time and placed 31st while senior Briar Becton produced a 28:10 time, which proved deserving of 40th-place honors. Junior Devin Reed would garner 46th place in the scoring department by registering a 28:31 time.
Senior Ryutaro Kinjo posted a 28:36 time to capture 50th place, eight spots in front of freshman Riley Talbut's 28:45 time. FroshTyler Davis ran a time of 28:58 for 66th place while sophomore Zak Bowling produced a 94th-place 29:57 time. Freshman Andre Walker crossed the finish line in a 30:17 time to receive 102nd place out of the 150 total collegiate runners.
The Red Wolves will return to the course on Oct. 13 to compete in the Chile Pepper Invitational at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Ark. The meet is being hosted by the Chile Pepper Running Club.
