ASU's Laker leading A-State at ORU Shootout

From Arkansas State University

A week after picking up her first career individual title, freshman Abi Laker is in position to make a run at her second consecutive championship after finishing the ORU Shootout's opening two rounds Monday in fourth place to lead the Arkansas State women's golf team at the two-day tournament.

The Red Wolves recorded a 313 and 316 for the first and second rounds, respectively, to end the day tied for seventh place among 13 teams with a combined 629. A-State is only one stroke behind sixth-place UTEP and within six of fourth-place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, while Lamar posted a tournament-leading 605.

Laker shot a combined 149, which included a 73 this afternoon for the lowest single-round score of the day by an ASU player. She will enter tomorrow's competition just three strokes behind leader Julie Aime of Lamar.

Following Laker, Jennifer Loiacano and Anna Carling are tied for 32nd place after both shot a 159. Also competing for ASU, Courtney Manning is tied for 49th place with a 163, Endsley Evans tied for 49th with a 163, Clara Tefteller tied for 63rd with a 169 and Libby Croom is in 69th place with a 176. Both Evans and Croom are competing as individuals.

The tournament's third and final round will be played Tuesday.
