BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) – After years of planning and construction, the White River Medical Center (WRMC) in Batesville held a grand opening for its new $35 million expansion, called the East Tower.
Construction took about a year and added about 90,000 square feet to the hospital's existing facility.
The new tower features a new cafeteria and the dietary department. It also houses a gift shop managed by volunteers.
The hospital also added 60 new private patient rooms with the latest amenities.
Gary Bebow, the hospital's CEO, says the finished product should make the community proud.
"We really appreciate the opportunity to take care of people in this area and return people to normal lives after illnesses," Bebow said. "We're proud to be apart of the community from a healing perspective but also as an economic engine toward this community and what we can do to contribute from both regards."
Opening up the East Tower to the public wraps up the first phase of changes to come to the WRMC.
The hospital will next create separate areas for emergency room patients and those coming for other visits. That phase should be completed in March.
