Officers visit Head Start School to teach safety, awareness

CALICO ROCK, AR( KAIT) – Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence and Deputy Mark Semino visited Calico Rock Head Start Tuesday.

According to the sheriff's department, the two officers told the students about stranger safety, fire dangers, drug and alcohol awareness, and how to contact emergency services, and in addition to showing the students their patrol cars.

Sheriff Lawrence said he always enjoys talking to kids about their own safety. He added that the children he spoke to Monday were very sharp were obviously taught well both at the school and at their homes. 

Sheriff Lawrence said each child received a safety coloring book, an underage alcohol prevention pencil, and of course, a candy sucker. 

Similar programs are planned for Brockwell Head Start and the Melbourne Head Start in the near future.
