Bass Pro set to open on time, complete with 'alligator pit' and 'swamp'

(WMC-TV) - In just 11 months, the new Bass Pro Shops super store is supposed to open inside the Pyramid.

However, there are reports that construction on the hotel part of the plan could cause delays.

The current phase of the project is meant to protect the pyramid from earthquakes and river flooding.

Pyramid senior project manager Alan Barner of OT Marshall Architects says crews are right on schedule to make way for Bass Pro Shops to open next fall.

Massive machines are burrowing long metal beams into the ground to give the Pyramid good footing in the event of a disaster.

"Pilings all around the perimeter of the building. 200 pilings to reinforce the buildings," said Barner.

They are retrofitting the building to withstand an earthquake.

"To allow the structure to move a little bit instead of collapsing," explained Barner.

The concrete skirt around the base of the building has been removed.

"There are going to be two restaurants inside the building, ‘The Buzzard's Roost' and ‘Uncle Buck's Fishbowl'," said Barner.

The restaurants will serve American food and seafood.

"There's going to be a bungee jump that's going to take you down to give you the feeling of going down into the alligator pit," mentioned Barner.

An alligator what? You read him right.

"There's an alligator pit and there are also zip lines that are going to take you over the main swamp area," he said.

You can also expect an incredible view from your hotel room when they open in Spring 2014.

"We're planning for 190 hotel rooms inside the building that'll have internal balconies overlooking the swamp and the bungee jumping and zip lines," said Barner.

As of right now, Bass Pro is scheduled to open its doors in the fall of next year.
