JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The Jonesboro Police and Fire Departments are recruiting.

The announcement comes from the Diversity Coalition of Jonesboro, an organization that was created to assist the city government of Jonesboro and other Jonesboro employers in increasing the representation of minorities and women in their workforces to more appropriate levels.

Listed below are the deadlines, requirements, and contact information for the Jonesboro Police and Fire Departments.

Jonesboro Police Department                   

The Jonesboro Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. 

Police officers are employed for the purpose of maintaining order, preventing and detecting crime, protecting the rights, lives and property of citizens, and enforcing the laws. 

Must be at least 21 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be a U.S. citizen, and have no felony convictions. 

Applicants will be required to meet these state requirements: pass physical agility tests, written test, drug screen, polygraph, medical and psychological examinations, and an intensive background investigation. 

Starting pay for certified and non-certified officers is currently $30,514.  Benefits include medical, dental, vacation, sick leave, pension, take-home vehicles, advanced training opportunities, pay incentive plan, and others.

Applications must be received by 4:30 PM on October 12, 2012. 

Jonesboro Fire Department

The City of Jonesboro Civil Service Commission will be testing for the position of Entry Level Fire Fighter on Saturday, November 3, 2012.

Applications will be accepted through October 19, 2012 at the Human Resources Office, 515 West Washington, Jonesboro, AR 72401.  Questions should be directed to the Human Resources Office at 870-933-4640.

Pre-Qualifications for an Entry Level Firefighter include: Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen, possess a High School Diploma or GED, minimum age of 21, maximum age of 34 (as required by Arkansas Law), no Felony Convictions. Applicants are required to have a Valid Driver's License, Pass Physical Agility Tests, Written Test, Drug Screen, Medical Exam and a Comprehensive Background Check including a polygraph test.  The City of Jonesboro is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
