HEBER SPRINGS, AR - The funeral for Arkansas Marine Tommy "T.J." Parker who died in Iraq is set for this afternoon in Heber Springs.
The 21-year-old soldier died during an ambush in Ramadi, about 60 miles west of Baghdad. Services are planned at the First United Methodist Church followed by a burial with full military honors at the Cleburne County Memorial Gardens.
Parker had a wife, Carla, and a two-year-old daughter, Lara. The Parkers were high school sweethearts. Parker was born in Stuttgart and went to high school in Rose Bud.
He was assigned to Camp Pendleton, California, after joining the Marines right out of high school. Parker is the 16th Arkansan to die in the war in Iraq. One Arkansan has died in Afghanistan.
