Baby sitter arrested for theft of property over $5,000

FORREST CITY, AR (KAIT) – A Forrest City woman has surrendered herself to authorities after her former employer noticed several items missing from her home. 

According to the Forrest City Police Department, Kassie Weatherford, 22, of Colt, was taken into custody for theft of property over $5,000 after police said she took several pieces of her former employer's property over the course of two weeks. 

Police said Weatherford had previously worked at the home as a baby sitter, but it is not clear if she was still employed there at the time of thefts. 

Weatherboard later surrendered herself on an outstanding warrant at the police department. She was arraigned in St. Francis County District Court. 

"When you hire someone to work in or around your home, try to get as much information as possible about that person's background," said Police Chief E.P. Reynolds.  "Get references from previous clients, family and friends, if possible.  We can never be too careful about who we let into our homes."
