SOUTHSIDE, AR (KAIT) – A former Southside School District volleyball coach accused of having an inappropriate relationship with one of his players, had his case continued to January of 2013.

According to the Independence County District Court's Office, 40-year-old David Shilkitus, had his Class A misdemeanor indecent exposure case continued to January 16, 2013.

Shilkitus was charged with indecent exposure after telling police he sent an explicit picture to a girl less than half his age.

In October Superintendent Roger Rich said the school board accepted the resignation of Shilkitus, who had worked as a seventh grade math teacher and the junior and senior high girls' volleyball coach.

Allegations arose that he sent a lewd photo of his genitals to one of his players. The superintendent says one of the student's friends initially reported the inappropriate relationship.

The Independence County Sheriff's Office began an investigation after the school and its resource officer, Sgt. Randall Lamons, quickly reported a situation involving "sexting" between a coach and a 17-year-old student.

Mundy says Shilkitus admitted during an interview that he sent the lewd photo to the girl and confirmed it in writing.

Shilkitus is charged with indecent exposure, a Class A misdemeanor, and is due back in court on January 16, 2013.

If convicted he could face a one-year sentence in the county jail, a $1,000 fine and may have to register as a sex offender.

We will continue to track this story and provide the latest details when they become available.
