PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – The Paragould Police Department partnered with the SafeKids Coalition to hold a child safety seat clinic this weekend.

Officers gave away about 150 free car seats Saturday morning and then helped parents correctly install them.

Local police try to host these safety clinics at least twice a year.

Capt. Greg Trout says, when the parents leave, he hopes they remember one important thing.

"A sense that we're here to help," Trout said. "We're all about their safety and the safety of their children, and we're not always asking for something in return."

If families were unable to attend the clinic Saturday, the SafeKids Coalition is hosting several more in the next few weeks.

Officers will assist parents next Saturday, October 20, at the Walnut Ridge Walmart from 9 a.m. to noon.

Families can also stop by StarTek in Jonesboro on Saturday, November 17, to take home a car seat at no charge and receive other pertinent safety information.

People can contact their local police departments as well because many stock up car seats to give to families in need throughout the year.
