COPY-St. Louis Zoo changes display after complaints

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis Zoo will change a Halloween display of about 10 ghosts with black faces hanging from trees after complaints that it resembled lynchings.

KMOV reported (http://bit.ly/V6uM4T ) an outside vendor made and installed the decorations, which includes faceless ghosts with a light in the head. At night, the light shines through but during the day, the black faces are all that's visible.

Spokesman Wyndel Hill says zoo officials decided after hearing some complaints to take the display down. He says the zoo did not intend to offend anyone.

Zoo patron Chris Burchett says he complained about the display and he appreciates the zoo's decision to remove it.
