The Arkansas State women's bowling team is ranked second in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Media Preseason Poll. This ranking comes just a few weeks after the No. 2 ranking the Red Wolves received in the NTCA Coaches Poll.
Arkansas State received 308 points and two first-place votes in the poll. Defending NCAA champion Maryland-Eastern Shore had 349 points and 11 first place votes. Last season's national runner-up Fairleigh Dickinson was third with 305 points, while Vanderbilt and Nebraska rounded out the top 5. The NTCA Media Poll was almost exactly the same as the NTCA Coaches Poll with the only exception coming in the No. 17 and No. 18 spots.
A-State finished the season ranked fifth last year after advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season. The team finished 90-38 last year, setting the record for most wins in school history, and finished no worse than fourth in any tournament.
Reigning NTCA Coach of the Year Justin Kostick returns for his fourth season in Jonesboro and sports a 228-101 (.693) record as ASU's bowling coach.
The Red Wolves return three All-Americans from last year's squad, including Freshman of the Year and third-team selection Amanda Lokker. Junior Amanda Labossiere was named to the second-team and also earned a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team. Senior Rachael Gittings returns after earning a first-team selection.
Arkansas State starts its quest for a national championship at the Tulane Collegiate Invitational in New Orleans, La., Oct. 19-21.
