A trio of seniors – Trey Finn, Marcus Hooten, and Brandon Peterson have been named Arkansas State University men's basketball team captains for the 2012-13 season.
Finn, a 2012-13 Athlon Sports' All-Sun Belt Conference preseason pick, averaged both a team third-most 11.6 points and 5.3 rebounds an outing while generating 21 double-digit single-game scoring performances a season ago. A starter in 29 of 30 contests, Finn connected on a team-high 61 three-point field goals and turned in a squad-leading 45.9 percent (61-133) in treys for the 2011-12 campaign. The 2012 SBC All-Tournament Team selection enters this season ranking seventh on A-State career leaders list in steals(119), three-point field goals made (131), and three-point field goals percentage (.409). The 6-2, 213-pound guard is averaging 9.4 points and 5.7 rebounds in 91 career appearances to date.
Hooten returns for his final collegiate season as the Red Wolves' leading scorer after averaging a squad-best 12.5 points with a team sixth-most 2.4 rebounds per contest as a starter in 33 of 34games played in last season. Hooten, a 6-3, 208-pound guard, posted double-figure scoring in 20 games a season ago and led or shared top team scoring honors on 11 occasions.
Peterson, a 6-8, 217-pound forward, led ASU in rebounding last season as a result of a 7.9 boards per game average to go with a team fourth-most 9.2 points a contest as a starter in all 34 A-State outings. A season ago, Peterson accumulated 12 double-digit scoring and 11 double-figure rebounding single-game performances. He led or shared top ASU rebounding honors on 24 occasions and 17 times in blocked shots. Peterson presently is listed third among the program's all-time leaders in blocked shots with 123 total and ranks 15th in rebounding with 585 boards in 96 career contests.
A-State, under fifth-year head coach John Brady, will tipoff its 2012-13 season with a pair of home exhibition games againstSouthern Arkansas (Nov. 1) and Henderson State (Nov. 6) at ASU's Convocation Center before officially opening the regular season on Nov. 10 with a non-conference tilt at Dayton.
