ASU bowling finishes 2nd in Tulane Collegiate Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. ( – The Arkansas State University bowling team secured a second place finish in the Tulane Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, October 21.

Sam Houston State was able to defeat the Red Wolves 4-3 in the championship round.  ASU had a 3-1 lead, but just couldn't clinch the tournament victory against the Bearkats.  Stephen F. Austin was able to take third place by defeating Jackson State.

In the championship match, A-State won the first two games by scores of 212-176 and 205-183.  Sam Houston State came back with a 265-186 victory before ASU won game four by a count of 210-170.  The Red Wolves couldn't get the fourth victory they needed as SHSU won game five 190-175 and game six 223-183.  With the match tied 3-3, Sam Houston State was able to take the decisive game 7 by a count of 181-169.

"We didn't play bad, things just didn't go our way at the end so congrats to Sam Houston State," ASU Bowling Coach Justin Kostick said. "You'll take 8-3 in any tournament so I'm proud of our team."

Arkansas State began tournament play today by defeating the Bearkats 4-3 before receiving a bye before the championship match.  Arkansas State finished the tournament with a record of 8-3.

ASU finished the second day with a 7-2 record and still led in total pinfall with a total of 8,629 with SHSU trailing with a count of 8,457.

Junior Amanda Labossiere and senior Melissa Lachanski earned all-tournament team selections.  This is Lachanski's first career all-tournament team selection.

The Red Wolves will be back in action Nov. 9-11 at the Crusader Classic hosted by Valparaiso University.
