Harding senior defender Rhon Royer scored his first goal
of the season, but the Harding men's soccer team fell 5-1 to Fort Hays State in
an MIAA game on Saturday at Harding Soccer Field.
Fort Hays State
(10-4-2, 6-2-1) moved into third place in the MIAA standings with the win, only
one point behind Northeastern State and Lindenwood. Harding fell to 4-10-3
overall and 2-6-1 in the MIAA.
Fort Hays State junior Daniel Peralta
scored the first hat-trick in team history. He scored on a penalty kick in the
10th minute and added goals in the 25th and 48th minutes. He leads the Tigers
with nine goals.
Tomas Mares scored in the 19th minute for Fort Hays and
Kyle Markovits added the fifth goal in the 78th minute.
Royer's goal came
in the 89th minute on a penalty kick that followed a pushing foul in the 18-yard
box by Fort Hays State.
Harding created several scoring chances in the
game and had eight shots on goal to Fort Hays State's seven. Ryan Wilhelm led the Bisons with
four total shots and Jona Amssoms and Jackson Savage had three
each.
Harding plays its final game of the season Friday in Searcy. The
Bisons host Northeastern State at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night, and Harding
will honor seniors Royer, Savage, Victor Moya and Josh Ireland.
