The Arkansas State University men's and women's cross country teams will
compete in the 2012 Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Championships this Saturday (Oct.
27) in Bowling Green, Ky.
The annual conference championships will be held at Kereiakes Park, which is located one mile west of I-65 (exit 26), with Western Kentucky University serving as the host institution. Admission to the 2012 SBC Cross Country Championships is free to all spectators.
The 2012 SBC Championships will commence with the women's 5K race at 10 a.m. (CT) proceeded by the men's 8K race, which is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (CT) start time. Following the men's event, an awards ceremony will be held at approximately 11:45 a.m. (CT).
"We are looking forward to competing at the conference championships this year," said ASU coach Jim Patchell. "Our women's team has performed well all season as reflected by our number 10 regional ranking and I expect us to continue on that path next Saturday. Our men's team has more depth than last year and has showed steady improvement all season so we're looking for good things from our men as well."
The ASU women's cross country team presently sports the program's highest-ever regional ranking at 10th in the latest (Oct. 15) United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I South Central Region Rankings. The women's team features sophomore Kristina Aubert, senior Sam Salinas, sophomore Rexi Parcells, and freshman Abbey Dixon. Salinas was A-State's top finisher in the 2011 championships as she recorded a team-leading 14th-place 18:43 time. On the men's side, the Red Wolves have been paced this fall by sophomore Luke Lindsley, freshman Lance Beckman, and senior David Mills. Lindsley is the top returning ASU runner from last year's conference meet after running a 27:43 time which proved worthy of a 41st placing.
Aseason ago, the A-State women finished fifth and the men's team claimed 10th-place honors at the 2011 conference championships (Oct. 29) at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green, Ky. Western Kentucky captured both the 2011 conference men's and women's title.
