JPD: Crooks damage UCP van, drain gas tank

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police have beefed up patrols in one neighborhood after someone stole several gallons of gasoline from a van belonging to the local United Cerebral Palsy office.

On Monday, October 232 an officer was dispatched to the 1800 block of Woodsprings Road.

Vicki Romine, ACS coordinator, said sometime between October 12, when the Ford E-350 van was last used, someone cut the gas cap off and removed approximately 25 gallons of fuel.

Romine said the van is routinely used for outings, and the reason workers noticed the gas cap had been cut off is because a family wanted to use the van.

"(It is) pretty sad, especially when a family really needed to use the van and they weren't able to because of the vandalism," she said.

According to the police report, the area is not lit up at night and there were no cameras on the van.

The address was placed on the extra patrol list and Romine was advised to contact the police department if she becomes aware of any additional information.

Anyone with information can call the Jonesboro Police Department (870) 935-5553.
