Evangel alum creates school's first endowed chair

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A 1967 graduate of Evangel University has agreed to donate half a million dollars to create the school's first endowed chair.

Raymond Schmidgall is a business professor filling an endowed chair at Michigan State University. The Springfield News-Leader (http://sgfnow.co/RYE5Dh) reports he decided this year his alma matter needed the same position.

He has pledged $500,000 over five years for Evangel's Department of Business to create the Schmidgall Endowed Chair for Business Excellence.

Schmidgall met his wife as students at Evangel and they now live in Lansing, Mich. All 4 of their daughters also graduated from the Christian, liberal arts school in Springfield, which has an enrollment of about 2,100.

Schmidgall also serves on Evangel's board of directors.
